Heavenly Yarns from Artesano!

Posted on May 08, 2014 by Rachel Owen | O Comments

Let me introduce our newest arrival, Alpaca Silk 4ply from Artesano. As the name suggests this lush new yarn is a blend of alpaca and mulberry silk. Alpaca is a great affordable alternative to cashmere, is brings strength, warmth, softness and lustre to a fibre. Silk is also soft and lustrous, used alone though silk can have little elasticity but combined with the alpaca it just adds to the luxuriousness of this yarn.

Dolphin, Cyclamen & Merlot

Constructed from three plies of yarn twisted together, it is exceptionally soft and has a lovely halo. When knitted using one thread it has a beautiful drape and lends itself perfectly to shawls and sweaters especially those with a cowl neckline. On 3mm knitting needles you will tend to achieve a gauge of 28 stitches over 36 rows in stocking stitch. Can also be knitted with doubled up to give you a firmer fabric if you prefer.

Portia knitted in Caledon & Envy

There are 16 colours available and I can honestly say there isn't one I don't like although I do have my favourites! The colour palette has be carefully thought out so that you can put colours together for intarsia knitting or stripes.

Until the end of May you can also save 20% when you purchase Alpaca Silk 4ply, simply use the discount code maykal at the checkout.
