Last Minute Knitting & Merry Christmas

Posted on December 22, 2014 by Rachel Owen | O Comments
This year I've managed to knit a few Christmas gifts! I haven't quite finished yet there's still one project on my knitting needles but I've still got a couple of days left so all being well I should complete that one too! I'm just knitting a simple garter stitch striped cowl for my friend and namesake Rachel in the new Mabel & Ivy Supersoft which we will be launching in January. I'll tell you more about this fabulous yarn nearer the time.

I'm looking forward to casting on Vector for our informal Tangled Yarn Ravelry Group KAL which starts Christmas Eve. Vector by Tanis Lavallée was released as part of Brooklyn Tweed's Wool People 7; a collection of knitting patterns from independent handknitting designers using Brooklyn Tweed's own in-house yarn. I've stocked their patterns from the early days of setting up Tangled Yarn even though I don't stock the actual yarns, these can easily be substituted for other knitting yarns that are more readily available here in the UK.

Vector is bias gradient striped stole; I do love my stripes! The pattern gives instructions for two sizes I'm going to knit the scarf which measure 90" long by 8" wide; the wider wrap is the same length but 28" wide. I just don't have the time to knit the wrap and if I'm honest I shall get much more use out of the scarf.

I've chosen to knit in Mirasol Sulka Legato, which is a blend of merino wool, alpaca and silk; it's a two ply construction with a lovely twist and knits up to a 28 stitches over 36 rows on 3.25mm knitting needles. I'm planning to knit on larger needles, possibly 3.5mm or 3.75mm after reading what other knitter's using this same yarn on Ravelry have used because I want a loftier lighter fabric and I will possibly cast on a few more stitches to compensate for the difference in tension between Sulka Legato and the pattern's recommended yarn.

Christmas Opening Times

Our last postal collection is 10.30am on Christmas Eve, and I'm planning to take a short break and will resume deliveries on Friday 2nd January. You can still place orders but they won't be sent until January 2nd.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
