The Base Doodle Toe-Up Socks Fingering Pattern by Pacific Knit Co. gives you a simple, customisable framework for creating your own colourwork socks using motifs from any Pacific Knit Co. Doodle Deck.
Worked from the toe up in fingering-weight yarn, the pattern has been designed to make adding your own colourwork easy. Keep things simple with just a small colourwork detail, or cover the foot and leg with your favourite Doodle motifs for a completely individual pair.
The socks begin at the toe and are worked in the round, with space to add your chosen colourwork across the foot. An afterthought heel is placed before continuing up the leg, followed by the cuff. The heel is then picked up and worked last.

Approximate sock height: 3.5, 5.5, 7 (8, 9, 10) in / 9, 14, 17.5 (20, 22.5, 25) cm
Approximate foot length: 4.5, 6, 8.5 (10, 11, 12) in / 11, 15, 17.5 (22.5, 27.5, 30) cm
Yarn: Use any fingering-weight or sock yarn that gives the correct gauge. Doodle patterns are particularly good for using leftover yarn, advent minis and small amounts from your stash.
Approximate total yardage: 150, 300, 350 (400, 450, 550) yards / 137, 274, 320 (365, 411, 502) metres
Needles
- 2.75 mm / US 2, or size required to obtain gauge
- One size smaller for ribbing, if preferred
- Suitable for your preferred method of small-circumference knitting, including DPNs, Magic Loop or short circulars
Gauge: 36 stitches and 36 rounds = 10 cm / 4 in
You will also need: Stitch markers, waste yarn and a tapestry needle.
Techniques used: Optional stranded colourwork in the round, afterthought heel, Judy’s Magic Cast-On, increases and grafting.
