Match Making - Pom Pom Quarterly Spring 2016
There are grey skies over Manchester this morning but my heart is lifted by the arrival of the latest issue of Pom Pom Quarterly. Gone is the usual riot of colour, instead the focus is most definitely on the yarn with nine patterns using undyed yarns, this collecton is fresh and clean.
As Valentines is just around the corner I thought it might be quite nice to partner up patterns with yarns we stock here at Tangled Yarn. I'm going to focus on six of my favourite patterns from this issue.
I love the stitch pattern designer Gina Röckenwagner has used in her sweater Rhombille. This is one of those sweaters that you'll just want to throw on time and time again with your favourite jeans, it should be worn with a postive ease. My choice of yarn would be Big Merino Hug, this would show off the pattern beautifully!
We already have the perfect yarn lined up for Sarah Brunenberg's shawl Perpendicular. Sarah has used one of our much loved weight yarns, Shilasdair Luxury 4ply in Fleece Cloud which is a blend of Merino, angora, alpaca and camel so you just know it's going to be snuggly and warm for cooler spring days.
I can see that Right Angle by Georgia Farrellfull would be a great layering piece in my spring wardrobe. Plenty of textured stitches to keep you interested throughout the project. Knit in West Yorkshire Spinner Bluefaced Leicester DK.
Equilibrium by Gina Röckenwagner would be the ideal cardigan to see you right through to the summer. A seamless knit with detailing on the back, this would be great knitted in Illustrious.
It's also great to see that in this issue the Pom Pom team have included three crochet patterns. Riveret is designer Merrian Holland's second appearance in the magazine. If you're are a novice crocheter than Riveret is simple to master and I think you'll agree pretty too! You'll have this hooked up in no time, try Cotton Denim DK a new addition to the Tangled Yarn spring summer line up.
My final pattern choice from this issue is another crochet pattern. Unfold by Yuliya Tkacheva would be wonderful worked in Orkney Angora Aurora. The pattern gives instructions to make in three different sizes, so you could do an infinitely cowl if you prefer something longer or want to loop over twice around your neck. The Aurora would make this super soft against your skin, the smaller size would need two balls whilst the longest one three.
