If you are a fan of Baa Ram Ewe and you follow them on Instagram, you may have seen their stunning sample of Nordiska by knitwear designer Caitlin Hunter. We are totally smitten and have our yarn and needles at the ready!
Caitlin's knit her original design in Yama Merino Linen Singles, but Baa Ram Ewe have chosen to knit theirs in Pip Colourwork, and I have to say it looks stunning. They have used Yorkstone as the main colour with Endeavour and Parkin as the contrast colours.
Nordiska by Caitlin Hunter
Nordiska is a modern interpretation of a classic Scandinavian style often seen in Norwegian Marius sweaters, which tend to be very fitted and figure hugging. Caitlin has brought it right up to date; her design is has a loose fit and is cropped, which makes it ideal for wearing over dresses, with skirts and high-waisted jeans. It features a band of colourwork at the bottom of the sweater which is then mirrored on the sleeves. It's the little details that make all the difference in a design, and we love the raglan cable seams.
If like me you are tempted to cast on Nordiska in Pip Colourwork the guys at Baa Ram Ewe have even worked out the yarn quantities for us.
Size | Finished Measurements | C1: Yorkstone | C2: Endeavour | C3: Parkin |
XS | 40" | 5 balls | 2 balls | 1 ball |
S | 44" | 6 balls | 2 balls | 1 ball |
M | 48" | 6 balls | 3 balls | 1 ball |
L | 52" | 7 balls | 3 balls | 1 ball |
XL | 56" | 8 balls | 3 balls | 2 balls |
2X | 60" | 8 balls | 3 balls | 2 balls |
3X | 64" | 9 balls | 4 balls | 2 balls |
The design is intended to be worn with 10-12" of positive ease at the bust so if you are 36" then you should plan to knit the medium size so a similar fit to the one shown.
I can't wait to see your Nordiska so do tag us on Instagram using our hashtag #tangledyarnuk
