We are starting 2022 by introducing a new yarn company for Tangled Yarn. Yarn Vibes specialise in traditional Irish yarns. We have the pleasure of adding two new yarns from Yarn Vibes, which we think you will love.
Before introducing the new yarns, let me tell you a little about how Yarn Vibes began and their philosophy. Joan Lucey is the founder of Yarn Vibes, based in County Cork, Ireland. They specialise in 100% Irish Yarn that is organic and produced sustainably in Ireland. Joan knew she wanted her yarns to be organic, ethically sourced as well as sustainable and at the same time supportive of the local producers and rural communities in Ireland.
Joan has worked closely with the farmers in sourcing the fleeces that go into making her yarns. Yarn Vibes Organic is a worsted weight that offers a 100g skein of pure Irish wool. The fleeces for this yarn came from Fergal Byrne's Organic Farm in Co. Kildare. A ninth-generation farmer Fergal believes that happy, well cared for sheep will produce the best fleeces for spinning into yarns that knitters will love! Fergal's fleeces are then spun traditionally at Donegal Yarns, and finally, they are sent to Jennifer in County Clare to be dyed organically using natural dyes. The colour range reflects the beauty of the Irish landscape.
Yarn Vibes Organic is a rustic yarn that is made to last. Its rustic nature makes it ideal for colourwork projects. So what might you like to knit? Let's take a look.
Wanting to add a second yarn to the range, Joan settled on Cliffs of Moher, a classic, Irish hand-knitting wool with a modern twist. It is the perfect blend of a traditionally spun, quintessentially Irish yarn with an up to date colour palette. This lovely worsted weight yarn comes in a range of unique marls and heathered shades.
Cliffs of Moher is spun and dyed in Kilcar, Co. Donegal by Donegal Yarns. They have taken 60% pure Irish wool and blended it with 40% virgin Merino wool, which gives you a knitting yarn with a softer hand while preserving all the unique characteristics of traditional Irish wool.
Knitting up to the same gauge as Yarn Vibes Organic around 18sts and 24 rows over 10cm, Cliffs of Moher can be used for the same patterns. Maybe it's time to cast on that perfect sweater that you will find yourself reaching for time and time again!
